Quantik explores AI in the commercial context with Dalkia
Last week, Quantik Managing Director Tom Haley FRICS FCIArb delivered a presentation to Dalkia exploring AI in the commercial context and what the rapid development of artificial intelligence could mean for commercial teams.
Rather than focusing on AI theory, the session looked at a much more practical question: where can AI genuinely make a difference to the way commercial professionals work?
From AI theory to practical application
Commercial teams work with huge volumes of information every day. Contracts, correspondence, drawings, programmes, costs, instructions and payment records all contain information that needs to be understood and acted upon.
During the session, Tom explored how AI could help professionals work with this information more effectively, alongside some of the important considerations around its responsible use.
The discussion covered potential applications across areas including contract review, procurement, payments and change management, demonstrating how AI could support some of the processes that sit behind everyday commercial decision-making
But one message remained central throughout:
AI can support the work. Commercial professionals remain responsible for the result.
Using AI well
The session also explored the difference between simply having access to AI and knowing how to use it effectively.
Giving AI the right information, providing a clear brief, understanding its limitations and checking its output are all fundamental.
For commercial professionals, this means thinking carefully about the evidence being used and ensuring that professional expertise and judgement remain at the centre of the process.
What we're doing at Quantik
At Quantik, we're already exploring how AI can work alongside commercial expertise to change the way project information is found, understood and used.
Our focus is on evidence-led AI with human judgement at its core — using technology to support the professional, rather than attempting to replace them.
There is considerably more happening behind the scenes, and we'll be sharing more as this develops.
Could we have the same conversation with your team?
The Dalkia session prompted some interesting conversations about the opportunities AI could create for commercial teams — and where organisations should begin.
We're keen to continue those conversations across the industry.
If your business is exploring AI, considering where it could support your commercial function, or would be interested in a similar session for your team, we'd be pleased to hear from you.
